7 Daily Reminders To Help You Succeed

Positive affirmations are sometimes attributed to spiritual gurus, hipsters, and yogis but the truth is, there is mounting evidence that positive thinking indeed affects the way we perform. However, there is a trick to these affirmations.

In business, every organization has a mission statement and no matter where one is on the ladder, a personal mission statement is a great way to keep yourself focused and calm on your career journey.

Once you’ve established your personal mission statement, using positivity and reminders can fortify your resolve to be successful in your career. It may sound cliché but “dream big” is not just a meaningless platitude. The truth is, it’s difficult to reach any goals at all when you are not sure where you’re going.

So, take some time to build your personal mission statement and use this list of reminders each day to keep you on course towards your targeted success.

Success Happens One Step at a Time

Goals are important parts of any journey. There are milestones in every aspect of life from simply growing up to growing successful. While you may have an end goal in mind, be aware that reaching that objective involves reaching micro goals. With every accomplishment you reach, take time to recognize your achievement. Each minor goal achievement is another step to the major achievements you’re ultimately going to reach.

You Have Qualifications

Remember where you were a year ago? Five years ago? Ten years ago? Back then, you surely did not know all of the things you know now and, likewise, you’re bound to know more next year than today. Take a moment to acknowledge all of the valuable insights and information that you already possess, rather than questioning whether or not you can handle whatever comes up today. Remember that you will be a different person a year from now than you are today.

You Are Part of A Team

Ideally, teams work in a cohesive manner to build success for their organizations. There are always opportunities to learn from our colleague. Resist the urge to criticize and, instead, embrace the opportunity to use teamwork to your advantage. Healthy relationships can be an integral part of your success.

Fear Is Not An Option

Facing fears is a requirement for success. Most fear is rooted in a fear of the unknown but nothing has ever been accomplished by limits we set out of fear. By doing at least one scary thing each day, you strengthen yourself and your career. Promise yourself each day to tackle something that tends to bring you anxiety.

Curiosity Is A Strength

“It surprises me how disinterested we are today about things like physics, space, the universe and philosophy of our existence, our purpose, our final destination. It’s a crazy world out there. Be curious.”  –Stephen Hawking

If you’ve ever worked with someone who believed they always knew the answer, then you know how frustrating it can be. Usually, the need to always be right is rooted in a fear of looking foolish to our colleagues but curious people are much more likely to climb to the top.

Get Into It

In her book, “Pilgrim Heart,” author Sarah York advises her readers that, “If you can’t get out of it, get into it.” If you are presented with a challenge that is not something you would generally enjoy, realize that undertaking work that others (or you) don’t typically want to do gives you the opportunity to showcase your talents. By looking at the task from a different perspective, you embrace the challenge as an opportunity and are more likely to enjoy it.

Nobody’s Perfect

Failure is a difficult but necessary part of success. Without failures, we would never learn but sometimes we take even the smallest defeats and make them the focus of our lives. By ruminating on shortcomings or failures, we give more power to them than we do if we see them as the learning opportunities they are. Take a moment to view any failure – large or small – as a lesson. Remind yourself that nobody is perfect and tomorrow you’ll do better.

Maintaining an optimistic outlook gives you different lenses to look through when building your career. This means incorporating acceptance within yourself on every level and learning by doing.
